Hi, I’m Justine!

Welcome to Wallet On A Diet! This blog is dedicated to providing resources and advice to help Canadians save on groceries and manage their money.

About Me!

Picture was taken in 2018 (def need an update)

Hi everyone! I’m Justine the Canadian mom/wife/blogger behind Wallet On A Diet. I live in beautiful Southern Ontario with my husband, Ben, and my three young children.

I’m incredibly passionate about sharing with Canadians how to save on their grocery bill and better manage their day-to-day spending. I know that it is a unique experience living in Canada and dealing with inflation, high food costs, and the housing market.

I want all Canadians to be able to afford their day-to-day costs without going further into debt. Or, watching your money disappear into a black hole instead of your savings. One of the major ways I believe you can save hundreds of dollars a month is to be strategic in your grocery shopping and to follow a budget.

Some Fun Facts!

Stuck under two sleepy boys

I’m a stay-at-home mother to a girl and two boys and I spend most of my nights hanging out on my couch.

My hobbies include writing, reading, running, and spending time with my girlfriends.

I have a degree in English Literature from Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta. I never thought my love for writing and reading would translate into a personal finance blog for Canadians.

I’m married to a die-hard Toronto Blue Jays fan and my husband and I make it a point to attend a game at the Rogers Centre every year.

One of my favourite things to do together as a family is to beach hop the Great Lakes throughout the summer. We love Lake Erie and Lake Huron and are so lucky to only live 45 minutes away from both lakes.

I just ran a 10 km race this year at the Toronto Zoo and look forward to more races!

My Journey

Sharing my Grocery Haul on my Facebook Page

I’m on my own personal finance journey that I often share throughout my blog posts and social media. I’d love to say that I’ve already paid off over $100,000 dollars in debt or something crazy impressive. But I can’t. Instead, I can share that my husband and I are self-employed, living on a tight budget as we invest in our business, and currently working on paying down our debts.

If you are looking for someone who has had success in the past that isn’t me. But if you are looking for a fellow Canadian who is in the financial trenches along with you and desires to share this journey with you then you’ve come to the right place!

As a stay-at-home mom living off of one income, and a fluctuating small business income at that, I’ve come up with a few tips and tricks on making a budget work to share with you.

I’ve had to find ways to think outside of the box in order to live within my income and not go further into debt. And let’s be honest, it isn’t exactly cheap living in Canada at the moment. Living near the Greater Toronto Area has really affected my personal cost of living so I need to get creative in order to keep my standard of living.

I put a heavy focus within this blog on saving money on groceries and managing your day-to-day spending habits. I find the best way to save money is to manage these two elements and I have found the most success by being mindful of my grocery bill and everyday spending.
